Independent Media Organization in Kurdistan:
Independent Media Organization in Kurdistan (IMOK) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) based in northern Iraq. It was founded in April 2008 by Free Press Unlimited.
IMOK works on developing responsible and ethical journalism in Kurdistan Region and the rest of Iraq. It also works to protect the democratic values in civil society and struggles to improve the situation of women and minorities and support press institutions to use media as a tool to achieve peace, coexistence and tolerance.

IMOK Goals:

- Strengthen the role of media as a tool to achieve peace, coexistence and tolerance
- Use of media for achieving rule of law, accountability, citizenship, stability and moderation - Use of media to avoid stigmatization and stereotyping of survivors of GBV and SGBV
- Use of media to Strengthen Peace building and social cohesion among Iraq’s diverse ethnic and religious groups.
- Develop journalisms in civilian and professional style
- Develop the writing thoughts (beliefs) in respect of people for people
- Build up the journalism to act a role in developing democracy in Kurdistan Region and Iraq
- To develop journalists_ capacity according to the social, economic and cultural changes in the community.
- Build up the press staffs consciousness and responsibility
- Improve the situation of women and minorities through changing the way they are depicted in the media


IMOK VISION

• enhancing the social media potential for women’s empowerment including mobilizing attention and accountability for women’s rights, ending and or reducing violence against women, increasing women’s representation in public life and media, translating women’s online advocacy to pushing for systemic change in policy, challenging discrimination and stereotypes, bring gender equality to media attention and galvanize actions.
